Hurley/Osborn Technique

Hurley/Osborn technique is an effective, precise and non-invasive technique which restores the structural alignment of the body by rebalancing the sacrum.  It originated with the research of Dr. Hurley, a structural engineer who became a chiropractor as a result of his own rehabilitation process after a workplace accident left him with a crushed pelvis.  Dr. Osborn trained with Dr. Hurley in the 1940’s and spent the next sixty years practicing, refining and teaching the technique until his death in 2000.

As a structural engineer, Dr. Hurley saw the sacrum as the ‘keystone’ of the spine and undertook an exhaustive study of how any tip, tilt or rotation of the sacrum would produce a cascade of compensatory changes throughout the body, causing not only biomechanical strain, but also a depletion of the body’s resources for general health and wellbeing.  He discovered that lightly contacting specific points in the area of the buttock would affect the centre of gravity, causing general relaxation of the muscles and ligaments throughout the body, resulting in marked improvements in postural alignment.

The underlying philosophy of the treatment is that creating balance creates health.
